After 24 years in the banking industry, George Carpenter, Senior Commercial Loan Officer at Farmers Bank & Trust, will retire. George began his banking career in 2001 and spent the last 17 years with Farmers Bank & Trust in Texarkana. He started in branch management, then moved into lending.
A lifelong Texarkana resident and graduate of Texas High School, George also earned a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University–Texarkana). Before banking, he spent two decades in radio and television and served as station manager at KTAL 6 in Texarkana. He also taught university courses in radio/TV production locally.
Known for his approachable style and affable personality, George helped countless customers navigate consumer loans and structure commercial solutions that fit their goals.
Reflecting on his career, he said, “Banking is a people business. It’s about trust, relationships, and helping customers succeed. I’ve truly enjoyed working with Farmers Bank & Trust and the incredible team here. They’ve been good to me, and I’m grateful for the support and friendships I’ve built along the way.”

Farmers Bank & Trust hosted a retirement reception honoring George on Friday, Dec. 12, in Texarkana. Friends, family, customers, and colleagues celebrated his contributions to the community and the bank. In October of 2024, George’s home of 29 years burned to the ground. After losing them in the fire, Texas A&M University–Texarkana replaced his diploma along with his 2016 Alumni Recipient Award. It was an unexpected and meaningful reminder that the impact of a life well lived is not so easily erased. To read the Carpenter’s story of grief and gratitude in Four States Living, click HERE.
