In Memoriam: Honoring the Life and Legacy of Thomas Emmett “Bubba” Smith

Farmers Bank & Trust joins the Magnolia community in mourning the loss of
Thomas Emmett “Bubba” Smith. He passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the age of 69.  Bubba was a devoted community leader, trusted businessman, and longtime member of our Board of Directors.

Born and raised in Magnolia, Bubba’s life was deeply rooted in the place he loved and the people he served. From an early age, he understood the value of hard work and integrity—principles that guided him throughout his career and his service to this community. Beginning his working life at Peace Builders Supply in 1969 and later co-founding S&S Home Center in 1999, Bubba earned respect the old-fashioned way: by showing up, doing things right, and treating people fairly. He served as owner and president of S&S Home Center until 2015, leading with consistency, humility, and quiet confidence.

Bubba began serving on the Farmers Bank & Trust Board of Directors in 1993. For more than three decades, his presence helped shape the long-term growth and stability of our bank. He was not one to seek the spotlight, but his insight, steady judgment, and practical wisdom carried weight. Bubba understood people, business, and community—and he brought all three together in service to Farmers Bank & Trust. His leadership helped reinforce a culture built on trust, responsibility, and doing the right thing, even when no recognition followed.

Beyond his professional contributions, Bubba was a quiet giver. He believed in helping others without fanfare and supporting his community simply because it mattered. His involvement with the “Biscuit Boys” reflected his appreciation for fellowship, tradition, and showing up for one another in meaningful but unassuming ways.

Those who knew Bubba will remember his dry humor, quick wit, and unwavering work ethic. He led by example, spoke with purpose, and carried himself with authenticity. His influence will continue to be felt—not only in the success of the organizations he helped guide, but in the values he modeled every day.

We are grateful for Bubba’s years of service, his friendship, and his lasting impact on Farmers Bank & Trust and the Magnolia community. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy will endure.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this time of loss.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 5, in Magnolia. For full details and obituary, please follow this link to Lewis Funeral Home.
